Learn about what's involved in participating in a paid clinical trial

Phone Screen

The first step in becoming a clinical trial volunteer is to speak with one of our recruiters. They will ask for some information about your lifestyle and medical history to help decide whether our clinical trials are right for you. To speak with our recruitment team, you can give us a call on 0113 394 5200 from a mobile or 0800 591 570 from a landline, Monday – Thursday from 9am to 5pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm. Alternatively, complete our short application form and one of our recruiters will call you back - you'll usually hear from us within a few days.

Screening

Before taking part in a clinical trial, you will need to come to our Leeds clinic for a medical screening appointment - like a full MOT for your health. During the appointment, we will collect some blood and urine samples, check your heart rate and blood pressure, and ask you some questions about your medical history. We use the information we gather at screening to make sure that the study you've chosen is the right one for you. We'll also guide you through an Informed Consent Document, which goes through everything that will happen on the clinical trial in detail, to make sure you are happy to go ahead.

Getting Settled

Most of the time participants check into the clinic the day before the study begins. This is to help you get settled and comfortable. We will assign you to a room, give you a wrist band, and go over the rules of the clinic and anything particular to your study. The clinics are very much like a hospital floor, and you will share a room with other people of the same sex. We want you to be comfortable and at ease while you are at the clinic. When you are not having procedures done, you can read, watch TV, play games, join in activities like pool or bingo, or use your laptop or phone if you’ve brought one. Our clinic has laundry facilities as well if you will be staying with us for a while.
