What to Expect: Clinical Trials Payment

You will be paid for your time volunteering in clinical trials. Here's how it works.

Will I be paid for participating in a clinical trial?

As a way to thank you for your time and participation, you will earn from £100 per day for every single clinical trial you participate in. You’ll also receive from £15 to £100 towards expenses when you come for your screening appointment and all outpatient visits, including each time you attend the clinic.

The payment you’ll receive for contributing to our clinical trials varies from study to study depending on its complexity and duration. Payment is based on the length of the study, the number of overnight stays in our clinic, and the number of outpatient visits you need to attend.

You can browse a list of our current studies, the payments and what each one entails. To see if you are eligible, call 0800 591 570 or 0113 394 5200 today. Or, apply online now.

How will I receive payment for my participation in a clinical trial?

Payment for the Screening visit will be made by BACS payment within 14 working days of attending your Screening visit. Study payments will also be paid by BACS within 10 working days of the final visit for all other study payments.

Are my expenses covered?

To help cover any costs incurred travelling to our clinic, you’ll receive between £15 and £100 for your screening appointment and for all outpatient visits. Payment depends on where you live.

How many paid clinical trials can I do?

You can participate in a maximum of three to four paid clinical trials in any 12-month period. Over 60% of our UK clinical research participants go on to take part in additional trials.

How long do the medical trials last?

The length of our paid medical trials varies from study to study. Some trials require only one overnight stay with a series of follow-up visits, others require you to stay for a longer period.

Declaring payments to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)

As a UK resident, you are responsible for declaring any payments you receive for taking part in a clinical research trial to HMRC. If requested by HMRC, Covance is legally obliged to provide a list of participants and the corresponding payments made for all paid clinical trials.
